The Artefact
Planning is underway for my Artefact, at the moment I am just finishing the information I will be putting into the brochure which will demonstrate the importance of assessments why they are conducted and the benefits and disadvantages.
My target audience is Students and Parents, it is a small guild (information brochure) into the world of assessments and is designed to help Students and Parents through assessments.
The reason why I decided to do an information pack (assessment brochure) was because of previous experiences, I found that whilst being a student and in training assessments were a huge part of my life but I didn't understand very much about them so I didn't take them as serious as I would have liked to if I had of know the importance, so this brochure will help students in the position I was to guild them and provide more information about assessments giving them (hopefully) a more positive view and will allow parent to be apart of the process too.

Different opinions rather then one solution.
Last weeks campus session was a lot different to the previous sessions as we were looking at the inquiry from other peoples points of view and how other people's views make a subject a bit more exciting and creates many different avenues to study, like new data selections new evidence to support findings and they always say there's always two sides to every story.
For example my inquiry is about Understanding the different approaches and purposes underlining Dance Assessments undertaken in different types of Dance Institutions and how assessments benefit not just the students and teachers but also the students parents because they will want to know how the child/young adult is doing but I would like to hear from anyone who has a different opinion about assessments to get a feel for both sides of the inquiry.

Last campus session got me focussing on my targets for this module and how I am going to improve on my out look of the inquiry I am rather happy with the inquiry I have chosen but I now have to get deeper into the subject because at the moment I am just scratching the surface, I feel that the word that best describes my future work is precision without this I wont be able to achieve the great knowledge and evidence needed.
I have also created a timeline for myself of targets for each week and its working really well for me I now have a structure to cling to and the knowledge of time scales in which to complete it in.
When I first realised to amount of work that is needed for this module I kinda freaked out but reading through the module handbook and that first campus session I realised its not too bad after all still going to be hard though.
I am now off to the second campus session :)
Oh and Happy Halloween!!

Critical Reflection Portfolio
Critical Reflection Portfolio.
My line of inquiry is about the
Different Cultures of Assessments.
I have created a Professional
Inquiry plan Appendix A talking about my line of inquiry, why it is
important, why I choose to investigate this inquiry, what ethical
considerations I will be conducted and how they are implemented etc.
During my time looking into this
inquiry i have managed to do a test observation on two different Schools one
being Westfield Community Technology College and the other The Urdang Academy
London which was a very beneficial experience, I have documented my findings in
Appendix
B.
On my blog I have discussed about
the observation I attended at Urdang Appendix C
I
have also produced a questionnaire for the students and teachers to fill out
when I start the Inquiry after my Ethical approval happens in June 2012 see Appendix D and Appendix E.
Also my reward title Appendix F.
Proposed Award Title and Rationale
Tiffany Newson
Proposed Award Title and Rationale
I would like my awards title to be BA Hons
Professional Practice in Performing Arts. This is because I have had a passion
for Performing Arts since a young age and as I have grown my passion has too. I
would like to share my experiences and knowledge with the future generation of
Performers. This title will be useful for my future career ambitions as a
performer and as a teacher.

Returning to Urdang
For my inquiry I have chosen to base my studies around The Culture of Assessments.
I have been very privileged to have been allowed to attend classes at Secondary State School Westfield Community Technology College and been able to observe the audition process at The Urdang Academy which I had today and will tell your little about my findings.
The audition process at The Urdang Academy seemed at the start of the day (10am) very exciting but so nerve racking.
As the day went on everyone started to relax and really enjoy the auditions (2pm) time flew by so fast that the next time I looked at the clock it was (5pm) and all the auditions had finished I had a really exciting day so exciting that I almost fell asleep on the train with exhaustion.
It is fantastic to observe future performers and know exactly how they feel and the effort they put into every move. Of what I have been observing mostly all of the auditionee's are dedicated and have the potential to be great.
I have managed to see auditioning in a new light to see what the auditioning panel see is great for a performer you can see how you may be able to improve myself and others.
Whilst observing I noticed that the group from the first ballet session was a lot more focused then the group that had acting first because the assessments in acting seem to be a lot more relaxed then ballet assessments so if I was to be doing my own assessments then I would most defiantly start with Ballet.
The audition process at The Urdang Academy is so different to the assessments that state schools do, I think this is because at Urdang they really want to be in the school and at state schools it is compusary to do assessments, for progress reports.
Ethical consideration is essential in this industry it is vital you show respect and motivation towards the panel and teachers that could be the difference between getting a place or not.
The way you present yourself is very important to others as first impressions can be judged right from the moment you walk through the door.
During my time observing at Urdang I have found that they really help the auditionee's get prepared for the tasks they that they were about to face for example a warm up session for them before they are assessed on their singing.
Whilst training a lot of focus and energy needs to be brought into the mix it is not all about pure talent it is all about hard work and dedication to the Arts.

4a
Here are a few questions I would like to base my inquiry around.
1. How does the national curriculum prepare children for the outside world?
I need to make sure that if they choose Performance/Performing Arts to be their future careers that they are well prepared for what the industry will throw at them.
2. How do Teachers make lessons fun for pupils.
I wish to make lessons as enjoyable as possible because even if pupils don't want to make Performing Arts their future career it is important for team building and a fun heathy activity.

Sorry I haven't blog lately been so busy had a great meeting with Alan on Thursday and I have now changed my inquiry idea I am now doing it on the Case study of Working in state and private schools and the national curriculum study.
I am very excited about this inquiry because hopefully it will be my future career and I have a lot of passion for teaching, It is my intention to undertake a work experience based strategy over the next few months, I also intend to put together a heavily researched teaching script aimed at students who wish to make the transition from state school to academy status.

Module 2
Module 2 campus was very exciting to find out what we need to do next.
I have an idea of what I want to base my inquiry around, not to sure about where to begin but I might start by approaching my secondary school.

An Extract from my journal
- Dear dairy today is Friday the 18th of November 2011 and it's been pretty bad I had a recall for the Olympic Opening Ceremony only when I got there I asked where the recalls were been held and was told there wasn't any yet they hadn't made a decision yet so I was not to pleased about that, so I left then phoned my agent to have a moan and she told me they wanted to see me dance again but by the time she told me all this it was to late the audition had already started and to make it worse I had taken the day off work and paid to get up to London, sorry to burden you dairy I guess I will have a better day tommorow :(
- Dear Diary today is Saturday the 19th and I PASSED MY DRIVING EXAM YAY CELEBRATION TIME!!!!!
- Dear dairy today is Tuesday the 22nd I have just got in from a dance class, I went an hour before the class to have a stretch but ended up watching the baby ballet class going on, and has made me think about a career change. I have always loved working with young people and what better way of expressing myself through Dance then by teaching it, It's always been a huge part of my life (and I'm good at it sometimes) so why not look into becoming a Dance teacher, It makes a lot more sense then keep dragging myself to auditions and waitressing all the time. Diary I'm glad I had a better day then the previous days.

Task 2b: Reflective Writing
Breaking it down and maybe taking a step back and trying to see my life through something or somebody else's eyes.
This is a great way of seeing how you as a performer may work best, personally I work better with Active Experimentation as I'm a get up and go kinda girl but that may not work for everyone else, we all need to find our ways of working best also I like to Reflect and Observe too because in looking back and observing previous work or events will change the way you think and feel, making you reflect on what happened and improving it,
On this task I felt obliged to put exactly what I felt at the time of the event's, but as time went on and then looking back at what I had written my opinions and my feelings changed dramatically, mainly referring to auditions.

Task 2a: Reflective Practice
I never thought keeping a journal would be so hard, one day I will write hardly anything the next something will happen and I will write pages and pages.
My poor journal hasn't had a great start in life all it reads about at the moment is bad things, hopefully things will change this week.
I love writing especially exciting things, I have a few auditions coming up so I am hoping to be able to write great things about them, but most of all reflecting on what I have written and the thoughts and feelings I had on those days have already changed after looking back.
I will be posting a few of my entries up very soon so you get an idea of my oh so boring life (no it's not really that bad).

1b Web 2.0
My initial thoughts on Web 2.0.
Well came in on the 4th of October for our 2nd Campus session and felt like I had known everyone for ages we all seemed to just click, it was great.
When we started reading through the Reader 1 I was shocked how I didn't have the slightest clue what Web 2.0 was, but as we got further and further into the session I started to gain more understanding, and by the end my knowledge and views were clear.
I would like to state I have for's and against's on this subject.
The For's:
Social Media is such an amazing tool the things I have achieved through Web 2.0 are so great such as.
Jobs: There are millions of jobs out there and with a click of a button you can manage to attain yourself an interview.
Auditions: You don't have to pop down to your local newsagents to buy a newspaper with auditions in any more just upload your C.V and apply for auditions through sites like Spotlight, Casting Call Pro, StarNow, the list is endless
Clothes: In the comfort of your own home you can shop for new clothes, cars, food, even pets.
Also some people find LOVE over dating sites.
The Against's :
Social Media can also cause a lot of other Problems such as:
Bullying: Through social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, BEBO, Myspace people can access personal information and cause harm to others ranging from messages of hate and even physical harm by imposing as someone else to make arrangements to meet etc..
Fraud: There are so many different sites that make you part with your money or act as someone else or a bank or building society trying to make arrangements for your money to be moved to different accounts the list goes on.
So as you can see there are good and bad side's to the Web 2.0 here is a link to 4th of October session we had and the discussions we had.
